I’ve been working for the past few days on a new project that is part of our “Operation Kids: Rebuilding Dreams in New Orleans” campaign. The “Domino Effect” is a benefit concert honoring Fats Domino that will be held at the New Orleans Arena on May 30. As you probably know, Fats is a New Orleans native (Lower 9th Ward) who lost his home during Hurricane Katrina. He has been working hard since then to help rebuild his community and bring attention to the rebuilding efforts in the city.
Several extraordinary musicians with past and present New Orleans ties will perform at the concert: Chuck Berry, Little Richard, BB King, Wyclef Jean, Ozomatli, Keb Mo, Taj Mahal and Junior Brown. Of course, Drew Brees, QB of the New Orleans Saints and his wife Brittany will be at the event, along with other celebrities to be named later.
The concert will also include a brief look at each of the charities the “Rebuilding Dreams” campaign is benefiting: New Orleans Outreach, Best Buddies Louisiana, the Edible Schoolyard New Orleans, New Orleans Charter Science and Math High School, Beacon of Hope Resource Center, Greater New Orleans Rebuild Child Care Collaborative, and Lusher Charter School.
It ought to be a great show. Maybe I’ll see some of you there. Tickets are available at http://www.dominoeffectnola.com/
